April 18—(Mon.)Working on fence—Evening—at 5:00 we decided in a hurry to go to “Lafayette” to see “Family Honeymoon” which C had said she liked so much. A very enjoyable comedy. (Also “Mysterious Mr. X—good entertainment). As we were leaving met the Berlins. They asked us out to the house for a chat. Ice cream cake & coffee—(we had not had our dinner but hated to tell them) Home and made huge ham sandwiches. We invited them to dinner Wed. evening. April 19—(Tues.)Working on fence—etc.Apr. 20—(Wed).Cleaning up yard—An enjoyable evening with Berlins—M. brought Peggy in for [a while]. In studio,—& then listening to records. (Arenskys variations on theme of Tschaikovsky [sic]—Dvorak’s Dumky Trio, & Schubert’s “Death & the Murder Quartet).Apr. 21—(Thurs.).A bright mild day—B & I to the “Great Woods”—A fine day—we took cold chicken etc for our lunch which we ate, sitting on a log in the warm sunlight—A pleasant hour. Studying & discussing the infinite variety of tree trunks—After dusk wandering around in the woods exploring—great [CD] of hepaticas; in full bloom, wide open looking up at the sun—a marvelous sight. (F and several deep blue violet ones which I took for our garden). The nobility & infinite variety of this woods grows with each visit.
