Tschaikovsky [sic] Sixth—S. seemed to race thru it so as to get it over with. Debussy’s the Sunken Cathedral—?—The Devil & Daniel Webster—some portions of the slow movement very beautiful.B & I rummy—Played the Schubert Ninth—incredibly beautiful and Bruno Walter’s conducting superb.Feb. 14—(Mon.). Lowering skies, dark, raw chill in the air, a S.W. wind, fine rain at times. Car to N’s to find cause of terrific noise of engine (which I suspected to be a worn out muffler). N—however said it was the exhaust pipe leading from the engine to the muffler. In studio—writing letters to Louise, Joe, Jim Sally & Rosenbaumer (Letters from him saying due to budget troubles, had only $150 to spend—) Must reduce size of exhibit which suits me better too. Studying the 1917 wet snowfall picture, and also some of the ones I made 1, 2 & 3 years ago. I was pleased that they still seem good.
