Jan. 30 (Sun.).; H & I to church—B having a cold in the head unable to go out).; A cold day (about 14°) with snow flurries from time to time. ; Letter to W. Benton (Enc. Britannica) who after his brash letter saying he earnestly desired another picture of mine, backed down.; Letter to F.R. ; Philharmonic Concert—Not much in time, not ever for the Vaughn William Sixth Symphony. B & I a game to rummy—then I went for a walk, to mail my letters and buy ice—cream at the drug—store and then Pal for a romp in the back—yard.; In spite of out roast veal dinner (preceded by shrimp cocktail) I was ravenous for our evening lunch. I had warmed over baked beans and toasted cheese sandwich, while B had milk toast.; A game of rummy, then I played some records. Antique Dances by [Respighi] and a concerto of Vivaldi, followed by Beethoven’s Second Symphony. ; To bed at 10:00. But unable to go to sleep, I turned on the 11:00 broadcast of the Winnipeg Symphony concert. Either their playing was monotonous (an all Mozart program) or else our earlier record playing dulled my receptiveness, but at any rate I had to turn it off.
