Monday Dec. 6—; A.M. B—M & I to Buffalo Shipping—M. home alone, B & I lunch at J.N. Adam’s restaurant on the 8th floor. ; ; ; ; ; Tues. Dec. 7; Pearl Harbor Day—A calm sunny day, Letter from C.; Making “Vase” of the pine bark & arranging my bouquet. The Kansas—Missouri bouquet never felt right—how much more beautiful are our golden rod, asters, sumac, & black haw berries, also in bouquet for the house.; Evening—B & I rummy. In the mist of it, Rev. Neeb called to tell us that Dr. Maier was in the Town Meeting of the Air. Which was just starting. ; A very interesting discussion. The subject “Is Protestant Union possible now”—Dr. Maier said no, because there were too many Protestant churches who denied the Divinity of Christ, or his atonement. Other speakers advocated Amalgamation, and Federal Union, which latter meant a sort of political union, such as our States have under our constitution. The other speakers at no time answered Dr. Maier on his points. Their idea seemed to be union at any cost to spiritual values. Dr. Maier got the greatest applause from the audience. ; ; ; ; ; Wed. Dec. 8—; B & I to Buffalo shopping—cold with snowflurries [sic]—A fine Christmas feeling—Lunch at Laube’s Cafeteria. ; Home—in the country more snow has fallen—the first snow to stay on the ground. ; (Letters from Sally, Evie & Art).
