Evening—B & I to Seneca—“Apartment for Peggy (Edmund Gwenn Paulette Goddard--) excellent. Gwenn is a fine actor. Besides that he puts across a warmth human feeling, regardless of what part he plays. With it “Anna Karenina” which we enjoyed again—A fine picture.Dec. 1—Cold, clear, sunny—Letters to Art—Cathie, Evie—Jim.Dec. 3 (Friday)To the Genesee Rd Country—Planned to do the Black Pond—but it was sunny—drove on east towards Pike. Parked by the road and ate my lunch. Clouds seemed to be forming in the south & west so I drove back to the Pond, set up my easel & made the preliminary layout, hoping for a cloudy afternoon. However the sun only came out stronger and I gave up the sketch.Found some pieces of rough pine bark (left by hunter men) which suggested to me the matl [sic] for a rustic vase for a winter bouquet.I drove around a bit looking for a subject, but gave it up and headed for home, rather out of sorts over my failure to use the beautiful day. On the way I gathered some sumac seed—heads, and also got some sand for B’s flower pot mixture. *The red sun & swirling mare’s tails piling up above it. ; ; ; _________________Evening B & I to Seneca to see “Rachel & the Stranger” a very well done & absorbing tale of pioneer days.
