Nov. 28—Sun.3:00 P.M. B & I to visit Dr. Brown (friend of Dr. Jones)—who, Dr. Jones had told us, had brought back paintings & art objects from Vienna where he had been stationed during the war. Dr. Brown a young man, & his mother—both charming people—I did not care so much for the pictures but the vases etc were beautiful—To bed early.Nov. 29Cold in my back—stiff all over and my mind numb—Late P.M. B & I to Gallery to help judge the entries for program covers for the annual “Snow—Ball” benefit for one of the hospitals. (The Jury supposed to be, besides myself, Dr. Russel, Mr. Osborne (pf the BBD & P adv. Film) Mr. Knox, Mr. Steinberg—Mr. Knox asked Ritchie to sub for him & Mr. Steinberg did not show up—after waiting on him we went ahead. A boring process, none of the designs showing any originality. Ritchie’s had invited us, as well as the Steinberg’s to dinner afterward. However the Steinberg’s did not show up for dinner either. Mrs. Shearer who was giving a party for a visiting artist (Martella) asked us to drop in for cocktails. Blair & Don Bunn & others there. (Mrs. Shearer’s grandchildren letting their brown spaniel in, and he ran madly into the room & up on a davenport).Ritchie’s dinner (roast lamb) delicious. Afterwards we listened to records—(Harold in Italy—A horn Concerto of Mozart and Bruch Scottish Fantasy—) A very pleasant time.Nov. 30. (Tues).Mounting the New Fallen Leaves (1938) and “Weather Moon” (1917).
