The setting beautiful post-oaks, which had blunt ended round notched leaves, thick and waxy.; Mrs. M. showed us how to get to the City Art Museum and a restaurant Garivelli’s [sic] – which they recommended for good food, not too expensive.; A brief visit at the Art Museum (an abstract show filled the place.). Then downtown to a movie as it was too early to eat. To see “The Rope” – too early & as we did not want to see the end, we went out & got a soda & then returned (the woman who knocked down a whole glass case full of small packaged candies). “The Rope” a tense morbid melodrama concerning thrill-killers. – followed by a B picture “Lightning in the Forest” very dull.; Then to Garavelli’s to eat. A & I had steaks, B fried chicken. Cocktails to start.; Then back to camp. We got on the wrong road but eventually reached 158 anyway.; To Art’s barracks where we bid him goodbye.
