allowed in this area. – Again we had to inquire our way of some soldiers. Eventually we arrived at the club. Art, anticipating us, came out to meet us. After our greetings we set out to see if there were sleeping accommodations to be had. Not having been warned, I passed a flashing red signal, which meant a plane was landing or taking off, and sometimes they flew only a few feet from the road. However we got by in time. At the gate Art learned that a guest house had been recently set up. We went down and got a room. “Supper in a PX – cafeteria – nothing to brag of – After talking a while, took Art back to his barracks then to “hotel” and to sleep. The army cots more comfortable than we expected. (Lavatories at end of hall.); ; ; ; Wednesday Oct. 20.; Up at 8:30. While we were wondering what to do during the day (it was Art’s turn to do K.P. and while he hoped he could get off at 3:00, we had that time to fill in. Art had seemed blue the night before and had expressed the wish to get acquainted with someone in St. Louis. We wanted to contact the Miner’s somehow). – to begin again, while we were wondering what to do until Art was free. – came a knock on the door, and there stood Art – free or the day. When he told them we were visiting they gave him the day off and an out pass. While we were finishing, Art went & got more gas, then we went to another (and better) cafeteria for breakfast – then we headed for Belleville.
