his head in his father’s lap & missed his supper.; Before we left, we made arrangements to have the car serviced early in the morning.; To Hotel. It was hard saying goodbye to M.A. I drove her home & after we let B discovered that M.A. had left an envelope in her bag, containing $20 and a note that that was for our hotel bill and some other money she owed for medicine. {64 ½ miles in Wichita}Monday. Oct. 18 B up at 7:00 – C up at 7:30. C – to see about car – working on it. Then to breakfast. Just before leaving discovered our waitress (Miss Davis) a Lutheran. Then to Dean’s – car still not ready so Virginia took us to see High School and meet Supt. Evans. Surprised to see the attention they give to art – a little gallery and many originals on the walls (mostly Kansan artists). I offered the K.C. Institute Exhibit to them, which he seemed glad to get.; Back to Dean’s – a telephone call – Dean came out grinning “Would you have any use for your coat and hat?” (Dean had left his hat too on their trip). Said goodbye to Drennans (after meeting Dean’s younger brother, Carl, & the brothers’ father-in-law).; Then I was going to turn around and go right out of town without paying our hotel bill or getting our baggage. – Further, after doing that, I was going to go on without saying goodbye to Evie, after promising
