Before going to bed—for a walk down road to a Texas store. Souvenir cards, toothpaste, & bananas.Breakfast in cabin. A beautiful sunrise, the sun at the center of a beautiful fan-shaped cluster of feathery cirrus clouds. On the way at 7:10. 757 mi. – right on Bypass – U.S. 40. (20 miles north of St. Louis) 8:05.766 – ; Crossed the Mississippi on a long narrow bridge 8:20. One of the first things we saw was a farmer plowing with mules.805 – Wentville – 10:30. Sign “217 miles to Kansas City.”The pale ivory cirrus clouds, spreading out fanwise from the west ¬– a feeling of vastness, as if the gateway to the middle west. – *Grasshoppers in full song. Yellow spiders.891 –; Ate dinner west of Columbia, Mo. in a little park.A high round-topped hill, with great oak-trees. Warm & Sunny. Heard a peter-bird, but could not lure him to us. Acorns. After lunch B made me stretch out on a blanket – wonderful to relax and look up at the sky thru the oak-branches. 982 –; Stopped for relaxation. Explore a woods. Found many acorns of the burr-oak – a real thrill.1017 mi – arrived 3641 Holmes St. 5:30.
