Aug. 31 (cont.)the north, battling with the warm flood of sun – shine from the south. At one point, tired out, I sat down on a dry; sun-warmed hump of earth. It felt wonderfully good. Finished about 5:00 – a walk northwards to a little woods, hoping to find the effect I needed for a projected sunset & night picture seen from a woods. It looked interesting. Back to the car, ate lunch, and then drove up to the woods. In spite of my afternoon’s work, I felt fresh & eager to start another one. I had to work rapidly, almost without planning or reflection. When I finished it was almost dark. The drive home was balm to my tired mind. B & C liked both the pictures – they looked better to me than when I was working, as usual. The sun day & night picture is a bit formal and too centered, however. Sept 1 – 2 – Vic, Clara & three children arrived about 2:00 – Sept 3 (Friday) Vic & family left about midmorning –We looked for Art most of the day, but he did not come. Sept. 4 (Sat)At 4:00 A.M. the phone got us out of bed. It was Art, of course. They got home about 4:30. A pleasant exciting time. Pal, after the first flurry.
