an incredibly boring “Winter Wonderland” a trivial story with ski-ing as the main interest. Nov. 24 (Mon.) A.M.—B & I to city-line to get chicken for our Thanksgiving dinner. And in afternoon to Buff. to get vegetables etc. A bouquet of huge pink daisy-like chrysanthemums with sprays of lemon leaves, at Bochstahler’s. Late P.M.—In studio studying my notes for “Moonrise in Woods” preparatory to working on it tomorrow. Nov. 25— All days on the “Moonrise”—Did not get too far with it altho B encouraged me. Evening—Art a “basket” of a pumpkin for the Thanksgiving table. Nov. 26—(Wed.) Letter from F.R.—check for $400—& news that Dayton had bought “Budding Poplar Branches” for $1200. No other news & rather discouraging remarks on the size & price of my recent pictures. In a rather “blue” mood for painting, nevertheless, encouraged by B (who is a priceless jewell [sic] as she always is in a “crisis”) I determined to continue work on the “Moonrise” albeit there would be no market for it. So, all day on it—and it went better. The subject fills me with joy. Nov. 27— Snow in the night and a quiet beautiful fall of snow this morning—all is white, and it seems truly like the old fashioned Thanksgiving day. A.M. B starts the chicken & ham, while I fix the table centerpiece—(B yesterday bought emerald green candles as part of it). Filled the pumpkin with fruit & fruit & lemon leaf sprays scattered around it. All of us—(including Mr—to church.) — (Mrs. Morlock had called us
