tray for my studio easel—pencil sketches of ring around the sun, which it occurs to me, would be fine for the picture December Sun—Nov. 22 Sat.— When I awoke turned in bed seized with violent dizziness (oddly the whirling of things was at right angles to the earth). When I went to get up, fell back to the bed as though violently pushed. However, by taking it slowly and I was able to get up & dress. I presume it is low blood pressure again. A.M. Letters to Mae (with appraisal of N.S.R.) and to Frank (for money) also note to Louise with one of my Christmas cards. P.M. painting all afternoon of the “view” looking towards Cottrells & Binkowski’s on by our willow tree—it was a fine afternoon combing bright sunshine, clouds & finally rain, with a strong S.W. wind. Eventually it settled down to cloudiness, and it suited the mood of the picture best. Evening—tired & eyes aching, but we played rummy & listened to radio.—(Toscanni’s & Respighi’s orchestration of the Bach Passacaglia in C minor). Nov. 23 (Sun.). A.M. to church—overcast sky with brilliant sunrays spreading downward on the southern horizon. P.M. lie in bed & listen to concert—(R. Strauss’ Alpine Symphony which requires 116 players, & includes in the instruments a “thunder machine” & a “wind-machine”—as with many of Strauss’ pieces, there were beautiful or interesting moments, but long stretches of inexplicable conglomeration of sounds. The piece did not make me feel that I should care ever to hear it again. Evening—M & A—B & I to Buffalo. Intending to go to Mercury for an “all-comic” program, but full up, so to Buffalo to see “Body & Soul” an expose of the prize-fight racket. A brutal picture finely done. Coupled with it was
