(a long line—Mail girl buys our tickets for us,).; A good picture.; Home—B to bed, I set up & finish reading “The Phantom Lady” which Joe & Ruth had given me.; ; ; ; ; ; Oct. 4—Saturday—; Odd jobs about studio, ridding up etc—transferred all art magazines to garage. Painting frames & Mats—etc.; A warm mellow day, clear skies,—almost Summer weather.; ; ; ; ; ; Oct. 6—(Mon.); Opening of my show at Frank’s—; A week of “marking time”—working on remodeling the seat in studio etc—; ; ; ; ; ; Oct. 12—(Sun.); B. Art & Mart to church—I to Central Station to meet Sally & Arthur David—train about 1 hr. late—; A pleasant afternoon visiting & getting acquainted with our grandson.; Evening—Carl Scheaffer & his wife in for a visit. Carl brought along a sheaf of photographs of his war work. When I saw the quantity my heart sank & I was furious at his lack of taste & consideration. Somehow we got thru them & they left.; To train—A relief stretch out in the berth & relax—; ; ; ; ; Oct. 13—15—; Trip to N.Y.; Slept well on the train, waking only once or twice—Orion high in the west—a friendly sight.; To hotel at once—given promise of a room in the evening. Check bags & to Drugstore (Frazer’s) for breakfast.; I had a hard time I was put to it to kill time until the gallery should open—looking in windows, & riding on the bus.
