time—now, however he comes joyfully and jumps up on us, and wants to go out at once.; Spiritually low tonight—especially do I have doubts about my painting, and our finances.; ; ; ; ; Sept. 3 (Wed.); A.M. cleared out studio and set out all the pictures we had picked out for framing—then called B out & we went over them. Two “fell” out almost at once—the one of the Sept. sun of last year, and the Songsparrow of this year. This leaves 13.; P.M. letter to F.R.; At midafternoon Hank & Mart came in. They had been at the Thousand Islands, and then visited Sally & Red. (All is O.K. at the latter place.); Hank & Mart down for the evening and we talked. Mart is pretty sure she is going to have a baby and has made an appointment with Dr. Potter for tomorrow.; ; ; ; ; Sept. 4 (Thurs.)—; Preliminary studies of house & sled I want to put in a sketch (made North of Bennington Center Dec. 1945)—as a greeting card; the a Christmas tree to be in the sled.; P.M. all afternoon on the picture—the work went well almost everything I did seemed to be right on the first trial, and consequently the picture has a marked spontaneity. Everyone liked it.
