that my potentialities so far out-run accomplishments that I feel somewhat depressed.; [Yesterday letter from S—returning our check which we had sent for her fare to visit us—She thinks they should “Stand on their own feet”—and they are right—the weather is also another argument against her travelling with the baby. Further, she said Red was working ten hours a day unloading sand, and with only ½ hour in between, goes to work at the theatre in the evening a strenuous program, one in which she should help].; Last night B & I to Strand to see “Imperfect Lady” a romance of the time of Gladstone in London—(Ray Milland, Teresa Wright, Sir Cedric Hardwicke)—very well done.; Yesterday & today working on a charcoal cartoon for a new picture, a thunderstorm above “bearded” hills—Finally reaching a state of complete indecision, I enlisted B’s judgement & together we concluded my first drawing (an upright) the best.; ; ; ; ; Aug. 15—21; Sultry humid weather continues without a break. An occasional shower, which has however no beautiful effect.; Got to work on the inside liners for the pictures, finishing all 16 and starting on the frames.
