with us.A pleasant time—the girls brown and happy looking. Evening stroll along lake (the two youngsters—brother and sister). The chance finding of a particular shell-like fossil sent us searching—we found many, some fragmentary, but many perfect.Aug 8—(Fri.)Reading “The Thresher” by Herbert Krause—the last few days— Thresher’s life of the latter part of last century & early 20th—A misty day—but hot & humid in afternoon. Almost started a sketch outline but gave it up.Hank down for supper—Afterwards B & I to Bailey to see Abbot (sic) & Costello in “Buck Privates Return” hilariously funny, and an English Picture “Deep in the Night”—In spite of over land recording and difficult to understand speech, the picture an intriguing one—(to do with dreams & psychiatry—but not too seriously).; ; ; ; Aug. 9—Aug. 14 (Thurs.); Hot and humid almost beyond endurance. My painting seems at a standstill.; Tuesday (12th)—B & I go over all my recent work to determine which should be famed—Arriving at 10, we nevertheless picked out 15—As always, at such a time, (when “stock is taken”) I feel
