July 7—(Mon.); A.M. Mary Cottrell delivers message from Mrs. Richert—data on the judging Martha & I are to do Thursday—in connection with the Walthers League Convention at the Statler—.—The outline calls for a luncheon, & meeting after hand at which we are supposed to critique each entry (!!). Angered by such presumption, we decide to be busy all afternoon, & to only do the judging in the A.M. But all day I am somewhat irritated.In Studio—letters to Mrs. Beal & Louise.Raining at times.Evening—B & I to Buffalo to see “The Perils of Pauline” which I, following a nostalgic impulse, wanted to see. (Recalling the song “Poor Pauline” of Art School Days—while the subject matter might be considered trivial, it was very cleverly and expertly done, and some of the sequences showing the movie-making of these days very hilarious. Betty Hutton’s satirical take-offs on the exaggerated gestures of the silent movies delightful.July 8—(Tues.).; A dark lowering day—misty rain (Dr. calls up & postpones visit until Friday.). I decide to go sketching— ; To the same country again. Stop on the Warner Hill Road, and decide to do the wood interior that I examined Sat.
