May 25—(Sun). Dark & raining most of the day. Letter to C & D explaining the paper pricing May 26—(Mon.) Last year I got an idea for making a decorative garden fence out of cement, and the other day I made a wooden form and filled it with a cement mixture—However today I could not [remove] it without ripping the form to pieces, & even then it all broke apart. So I started on another, more simplified version, using thicker wood (1 1/8)—when I had the top piece made it suddenly occurred to me that the wood itself painted would be just as good—B agreed with me,—I could not give up the notion that the fence made out of say, clay & then fired & glazed would be a very useful adjunct to little gardens. Earrings to go with B’s necklace— Evening—Call M.A. to wish her birthday greetings—Had not rec’d package yet. A windy day with marvelous color. Sunshine & cloudy. May 27—(Tues.)— Clear cool sunny day— P.M. B—C & I to Zimmerman Rd—to see if we could find orchards in the woods to the west— The low tract between the woods full of water—warm & steaming—everything so lush and growing so fast & luxuriantly. Reminding me of May days in the Little Beaver Flats.
