would “split”—One could feel the actual physical pressure of sound beating in from all sides. Now at last I know how great Sibelius is—We were tempted to leave at the intermission, but happily, we did not, for the Strauss Rosencavalier [sic] waltzes proved very beautiful too. Wagner’s “Prelude to Die Meistersinger” which closed the program seemed very commonplace & tame (although well played) after what had proceeded. I could hardly go to sleep. May 11 (Sun.)— For Mother’s Day, C & I got B a swan vase, a pink geranium, & a box of candy. Mart & Hank got her a tea-kettle (M.A. had sent a card & candy before). A cool sunny day. M & H came down in P.M. Cards—M made some popcorn. Evening B & I in to get C. who was glad as she said she had had a hard day. May 12 (Mon—) Finish adding 5” additional Presdwood to “Lavender & Old Lace” panel (it is now 37x50)— P.M. To Buffalo to deposit check—& fruit at Market. Bought Rodzinski’s new version of the Sibelius Fourth Symphony.
