The Cleveland Trip—Pleasant to be travelling the S.W. Blvd. again. Two miles beyond Silver Creek—flat tire—my bumper jack not high enough—[CD] man drives me back to Silver Creek, a garage man drives back with his wrecker & changes tire—the tire being a “loaner” from Nenner & not much good). Says tire is ruined.
To Dunkirk to O.P.A. no lunch—To Westfield, stop at Fenton’s (suggested by the Silver Creek man) and get an old tire from him which he repairs for me.)
Ten miles from here, “loaner” blows out. Able to change it by using rocks to raise jack. 3:30 by time we get to Erie. Call Ruth.
Stop at garage to ask him his opinion of the Fenton tire. His reassurance eases my mind, and from then on we relax and enjoy trip.
Stop at cemetery west of Conneant—The silver or white birches still incredibly beautiful—
