Aug. 18—Friday—
Got to work with week on the enlarged version of Carlisles’ House (1917)— My mind is concerned with other things, and it is hard to create in the whimsical mind which this picture demands.
We are all anticipating Evie’s arrival home tomorrow afternoon.
Aug. 19—
Evie surprised us by coming in this morning at 8:00. Only half awake at first, I could hardly believe it was she was talking to Martha & Cathie. Wonderful to have her here again.
Aug 21-23—
Art & I to Detroit by steamer.
A fine trip— (Try later to recall the view of the Milky Way at night)
Aug. 30—(Wed)
Four huge round topped clouds, palely lit up by the sun striding god-like along the southern horizon—
Sept. 25 (Mon.)
Noon—the day after the first frost—a soft mild wind from the S.W.—the sun shining warm from a blue & white sky—the furrow’s liquid clatter of a flock of starlings pouring down from the depths of the willow
