To New Oregon Road sketching. (South of Hamburg)
A hot humid day.
On a “bearded” hillside all afternoon painting
Afterwards I stripped to the waist and lay in the sun awhile. Then I took my outfit to the car, and taking my lunch basket went back up on the hillside. The slightest movement made me drip with sweat.
After “supper” I stay on the hillside watching the sun go down, and then the moon rise. First black & yellow orb-weaver.
Last night a glorious display of Northern Lights.
Aug. 5—
P.M. B & I to Buffalo. To the “Front”—Walk by the water-works—
Wandering around in the park—Ginger Ale. The little dog.
To Great Lakes to see “Going My Way”—
Afterwards to Riviera for chicken sandwich & ice-tea.
Aug 9—(Wed)
To south & west of Hamburg painting
First to Chestnut Ridge country—Sketches of rail fence (for “Song of Bob-White”)—Oak trees with branches down to the ground and with many clusters of beautiful green acorns.
East to Cole Road country. Park on a side road under a maple to eat lunch. Very pleasant.
Then southwestward, below Boston and to west to find
