artificial “snow” and the effect was very pretty. One night I played on collection a Christmas hymn, and some of the old childish records such as “Parade of the Wooden Soldiers” “March of the Little Lead Soldiers” Grieg’s Wedding March, etc. and felt sad that the childhood says were gone forever.
Among my presents were the Archduke Trio, (from Sally) beautiful music incredibly played by Feuermann, Rubenstein & Heifetz – the Jena Symphony of Beethoven, and the Dumky Trio of Dvorak’ (both from Mary Alice) – the first beautifully played, and the other with Dvorak’s haunting nostalgic quality – almost unbearable.
On Tuesday (the 11th ) we all but Art & Cathie went to the Kleinhans, to hear Menuhin. A fine concert, I seemed to be in perfect readiness for such an event. Cathie, had to forego the pleasure because of the grippe, and Sally took her “boss” instead) the next day Mary Alice became ill, and then Bertha & Martha, so that the balance of the week has rather “lost” – On Sunday M.A. & I went to see “For Whom the Bell Tolls” ( a beautiful movie, of somewhat slow spots). –
