caused all growing things to literally “leap” into life – as at the original creation.
Evening B & I to movie (Allendale – “Life Begins at 8:30”)
May 13 – Thurs.
A.M. Had to take out a Vermilion cup fungus from my picture, because it attracted too much attention, and by its color, killed the delicate of the hepaticas nearby –
P.M. To gallery to see W.N.Y. show; and then to art school to speak to Eliot. Met there Miss Bach, Soyer, Jacob, & Dorothy Sides.
Thence to Nut Shop for peanut butter – Take Martha’s friend Jane home.
May 14 –
A.M. B & I comparing the Two Ravines pictures in the studio – It is clear to me now that the second larger version has missed fire – In my straining for realism, it has become somewhat plodding, and lacks the abandoned creativeness of the 1917 version. However, it’s [sic] main elements are still good, and I already have plans for changing it, and bringing it together into one powerful whole. For the present it will have to rest, for I have worked myself out, on the subject of ravines.
The 1917 version is still a delight to me.
P.M. working some on the garden – putting in onion sets –
