day, sometimes filling the air with swirling white. Little remained on the ground however, most of it disappearing into the ground as by magic –
Tried without success all morning to work on the “Two Ravines” – Overcome by inertia –
In the afternoon however, I managed to do some work on it to good advantage – The more I paint on it, the more it seems to need – each new passage makes the previous work look unfinished. After all, 9 years has elapsed since I first put it aside as “finished”. Had my conception of painting not advanced in that time, it would be sad indeed.

A dream –
In a town-hall, trying to escape from some officers who were trying to imprison me in the tower. I manage to elude them by sneaking down a winding stairway. It opened out into an obscure alley way, when I was joined by Cathie and Art; together the three of us, sought to find a short cut to a road to Ohio, by going thru someone’s backyard. The whole yard had been made into a garden, and there was no place for us to walk except on the saturated ground. We did so, picking our way thru rows of squash and pumpkins seedling which had just sprouted and opened. Before we could get thru, the owner came out, and gave us a tongue-lashing. I tried to explain to him that we had avoided stepping on plants, but he ordered us off.
