many seasons. However, in its reconstructed state it was so incomplete that I determined to fill out the new pictures in my old fashion so as to gain some idea of what it would look like, longer. (it was formerly 31 x 47, is now 37 x 61)
Just at luncheon time, however, Valentine called up, and asked to come out to the studio for a visit. There seemed little I could do really stop him, as I told him to come ahead. While waiting for him, I did as much of the preliminary work as I could, and accomplished just enough to make me feel I should continue with it more someday.
Valentine’s early arrival (2:00) stopped all work. Tho [sic] it sounds as if I were annoyed at the interruption his visit made, I was not really, for I felt I could continue my work the next day.
He brought a few of his later water-colors, and I was able to tell him he had improved. He is planning to go to N.Y. during Easter Vacation, to show his work to Mrs. Martin.
I enjoyed his visit.

Mary Alice has applied at the U.S. Employment Bureau, and has an opportunity to go to school (starting Monday) to learn to be an “Army Air Corps Inspector” – importantly she was able to give Him & Kelly but two days [sic] notice, since if she did not go Monday she would have to wait five weeks. It caused unpleasantness, but I think she was right to go now, as the work she was doing at H & K’s was so mechanical it was boring
