agitated over my picture to thoroughly take in – It is only in retrospection that I realize its beauty.
Eve home with intestine flu, poor girl.
Feb. 14 – (Sunday)
A bitterly cold day – with a high wind. At bed-time the thermometer at 8 below and slowly sinking.
Feb. 15 –
Awoke at 4:30 cold and shivering and lacking the energy to get up and get more blankets. Heard Bertha go downstairs – shaking furnace etc – After a long interval she re-turned again. She reported that the back washroom was all frozen up. (Yesterday, the west (starting) part of Evie’s & Catherine’s room got all wet, and I thought somehow snow had sifted in under the roof and was melting) – These two problems, as I lay unable to get warm, magnified until I was in agony. Finally, unable to endure the cold and inaction any longer I got up and dressed by the furnace register downstairs.
I had an appointment with the dentist, but found the car frozen up. Planning to take the 9:23 bus to Bailey & then a car, I walked to the P.O. (in the mail a letter from Spring American Art) – Hardly had I crossed the street to wait for the bus, when a car came by & stopped – a fellow and a girl, - and they offered me a lift.
