He agreed with me; then as I was about to ask him about my assistant, I suddenly found myself talking to Hachford. “See here” he said “let me show you how I budget my money – I’ve been keeping a strict account of everything I spend ever since I was 16” – Making an impatient gesture, I replied “I’d rather run short of money than to be so tied down” – Turning aside absently, I went back to the hotel.; Here again I remembered that I still did not know the name of my office assistant. As I planned to take an afternoon walk with him, I felt I should find out his name and address as soon as I could. It occurred to me now that I know a man living in a new settlement between 8th and 10th streets, at Salem Ohio, who could give me the information.
