thru [sic] which flowed a sluggish stream, with a railroad in the middle distance.; It was pleasant here – many red-wings, - hylas and winds, a profusion of pollen crusted catkins–; In valley north of 242-219 junction – climb hill to east, a small black dog, apparently far from home, followed me. In the creek at the base of the hill, I found a round hollow metal knob (possibly from a brass bed) with a small offering on one side. Inside I discovered a good-sized craw-fish, seemingly too big to come thru (sic) the hole. I tried without success to get it out. Had it gone in when small, and then used it as a home, and grew too large to escape?; On top of hill, pick a bouquet of dutchman’s britches and squirrel corn. ; Torrents of rain all the way home. May 9 – Thurs. ; Three Dreams – ; 1st of Sibelius making a visit over here – ; 2nd – at Yates – Their son wanted to play some records. Mrs. Yates objected to them, and I scolded her, for not allowing him. We (all of my family) had intended staying overnight but I now said “Something tells me we are leaving at once.”- and told the children to start leaving. The Yates son turned out to be Howard Austin. ; 3rd – of Sibelius. He lay ill, and dying. I opened
