neutrality is the best thing.; Apr. 17 – A – Arthur down with grippe – In the middle of the night, I heard him get up, and was surprised a moment later to turn and see him by the bed. When I asked him what he wanted he said “I just wanted to kiss you good night” and leaning in did so, then went back to bed. Hurried, I got up to see if he was all right. When I asked him if he was O.K., he said he was, and seemed wide awake. ; The next morning he had no recollection of it at all; so he was sleep-walking. ; Evening Valentine over for an evening’s chat. In his attitude toward his painting and life, he has made a wise decision – to enjoy his family while he can and not worry about not painting. He said they were “expecting” a new arrival in a couple months. Apr. 20 – (Sat.) – ; A vigorous day – sky over-cast with swiftly moving “blowing” clouds, driven by a strong raw east wind. ; The wind feels delightful – it is a pleasure to stride along buffeted by it. ; A.M. In studio – writing and playing music - (Beethoven Quartet, Opus 74) – the scherzo is especially fine, one of his great creations. It has in it the elemental caprice
