Apr. 9 – (Tuesday) ; The girls had hid cards & birthday notes in all the things I use before breakfast – a card from Martha in the coffee – pot – a letter from M. A. on the coffee can; a card from Shelby on the plates, and a letter from C. in the skillet. ; A. M. work on Genesee picture; but need more studies. P. M. B & I to Buffalo – B to buy some presents for me. Evening the birthday dinner – a dubious affair. ; ; ; ; ; Apr. 10 – Wed. ; My drawing goes better – feeling it is solved, I must hope, then take B in to have her new coat fixed –; ; ; ; ; Apr. 11 – (Thursday); A delightful mild day, sunshine in the morning but cloudy by noon – Hepaticas in bud (I feel sure they would have opened had the sun been out at noon. ; I find it hard to settle down to anything, but I transfer my drawing to the new bound, and make a frame for it (to keep it from warping) – ; By night, the weather has changed, and at bed – time sleet was falling. ; ; ; ; ; Apr. 12 – (Friday) ; Ground, trees, & bushes heavily covered with snow (about a 4 inch fall) – the day cold and blistery, as in Mid-country. In put it seems more like a day in February. ; Evening – all of us to Shea’s Seneca to see “The Man from Da—
