Mar. 25 –; Clean and sunshiny here, B & I starte [sic] out for Olean to see some of the snow covered country. But about 30 miles on (junction of 39 & 16) we are turned back by a blizzard so dense, we can not see ahead more than a few feet. We parked by a French wagon, and went in to eat.; When we came out we found that in the short time we had weather, snow had dipted drifted in under the engine hard, and that we were frozen up. We managed to get to a garage next door, and got thawed out.; It was “blizzardy” almost to Springbrook. At home it was windy ant (sic) no snow –Mar. 26 – (Tues); We read where the blizzard yesterday was the “worst since 1888” in Wyoming Co. (around warsaw) and last winds.Mar. 29 – (Friday); A mild sunshiny day, the first of the season. My “first robin” in Cuttnell’s pear–tree – and songsparrows singing – Chopping ice from a sidewall all morning – It was pleasant to be outdoors, doing anything.; P.M. all of us to movies – B & A to see Town Edmorn, the girls & I to “Too Many Husbands” – a fair farce.Mar. 30 –; [Most of the ice & snow gone this morning – the creek open & free of ice. A gray morning, soft and brooding – The swirling yellow creek, or the wet bank exhales a rich earthy smell. Walk
