Jan. 31 – To Buffalo Shopping. Pencil studies of scene on Washington St, showing the Electric Bldg in sunlight.Feb. 1 – Start picture of yesterday’s sketch.Feb. 2 (Friday) – P.M. more studies of scene, then meet family at Vendome & we all to service at Lafayette – (His Girl Friday, a riotous farce, very well done). Feb. 3 – work on Elec. Bldg (White Tower) picture, but at the end of the day I discover all I did was terrible – It was incredible to me that I could put such an insipid sky in, as I did. It all had to be washed out. Feb 4 (Sunday) – P.M. B & I, Arthur & Jimmie to Falls. – Enormous crowds – the foot of the American Falls, beautiful with the great ice masses, supplementing the moving water. Very slippery – boys have great sport sliding & tumbling about.; Drive around Goat Island – takes almost an hours, we hardly move.; Stop at lunch room for sandwiches. Automatic Victrola – we play several of the records – “Beer barrel Polka” “Jumpin’ Jive” “Oh Johnny Oh,” & “Ciribiubim” – this sort of music suited our mood exactly. The sandwiches of Polish ham were delicious.; ; ; ; ; Feb. 5 (Monday) –; In Buffalo to move at Hippodrome & shopping – (Movie not quite successful – buying records at D.C.D. – (Szostakowicz 5th Symphony) & two Heifetz records.; ; ; ; ; Feb. 9 – (Friday) –; Days of confusion & doubt & self-disgust.
