Jan. 6 – (Saturday) –; In studio most of day. “Dug out” my attempt at “Building on Genesee” which I made so long ago (but after 1929) – that I cannot recall the circumstances under which I started it. Tho my start was tight & too delicate, the layout is good. I think now I will call it “Storm at Twilight” –; P.M. Girls to Bartholomew –; ; ; ; Jan. 7, (Sunday) 6 below this morningP.M. Concert – all Tschaikovsky – His 2nd Symphony – his violin concerto – The Nut-cracker Suite had been promised but was not given for some reason.; ; ; ; Jan. 8, (Monday) –A.M. In studio – going over “House on Seneca St,” & “Building on Genesee,” as well as some 1920 sketches.P.M. to Buffalo on various errands.; ; ; ; Jan. 9 (Tues.) –; 2 below this morning. Everything white with frost. Tops of trees, sunlit, against the clear light blue sky.; The snow seemed white, until the great white puffs of smoke from trains are seen – then it is clear that the snow is darker (reflecting blue from the west sky, combined with the sunlit positions produces a brilliant gray effect).; Snow-crystals on wires - they keep flashing in & off as they catch the sunlight just right. The same effect in a dense group of young saplings.
