Bertha from time to time. B – feels she should go to see him – we decide to leave at once.; By 4:00 – are on our way –; Supper at Conneatt – the dimly lighted Main Street strangely depressing.; Ashtabula by 7:30 – stayed at Hotel Ashtabula overnight – (The Christmas window across the street recalled to me a Christmas poster I made in 1913 at school); ; ; ; ; Nov. 30 –; Up early and on our way at 6:30. Dark – a little rain – Breakfast at roadside lunchwagon – after which it was light enough to drive without lights –; Gleam of sunshine thru a slit to the Southeast –; At Willouby – south on Route 91 towards Akron – Traces of snow in fields – ; Stow Corners – Difficulty in locating Victor’s home – finally thru Rev. Yount –; Buy flowers on way – (a pot of cyclamen) –; Victor so overcome he cried helplessly – later then he got control of himself and seemed in a better frame of mind. So much so that when we left him in the evening, we both felt more confident of his eventual recovery.; Their house – a large rambling sort of Victorian farmhouse (colored windows in the front stairway) – Great maples between house & road.; Before noon drive Loie to a “corners” east about 2 miles, for some meat – The spare barrenness of an Ohio “corners” – the general store – (bin of bolts – why?)
