and rat-like.; Dr. Bennett found my eyes had changed decidedly. He could not understand how I stood it so long – nor could I when I learned how much he could sharpen my vision. But it is one of those gradual things, of which we do not become conscious until it becomes very bad. ; P.M. to get our Thanksgiving Turkey – ; Lunch at one – [????]; To Market – in one store to get coarse salt, an elderly man came in and greeted the proprietor: ; “How are you today”; “What business is it of yours?” – was the surprising responder –; “I don’t know – I just wondered – Have you got (?) ; (I did not catch what he wanted); “No I haven’t – the place to get these is at a drug-store” –; “You haven’t? (incredulously); No – now there is no use of your waiting – there’s plenty of room outside for the likes of you” –; The old man (who repelled me too for what reason I could not realize) still lingered, but as my transaction was completed I left.; Attracted by a stall that seemed to specialize in gourd. I went inside. Here I saw a curious object, that seemed as if it were someone’s prank – two squashes cleverly joined together. I learned however that it was a real gourd – The Turk’s Cap
