milky way, which faded into the northeast into the glow from of light from Emporium, (that seemed like a false dawn – a thing of mystery). As I watched, the SE portion of the Milky Way, above a hill, suddenly was blotted out by a bank of cloud, which was visible only by the fact of the stars’ disappearance.Sept. 9 – up late. After breakfast, drove toward Sinnamahoning, making notes all the way. Another hot day like yesterday. Lunch at Sherbrooke Inn at Sinnamahoning – and I sat so I could look at a railroad bridge in the sunlight. They put the food before me in dishes, enough for several people, so and I could not do it justice. I had them fill my thermose [sic] bottle with coffee, and pack up a couple of sandwiches for my evening lunch.; More studies as I headed for Emporium. On the out skirts [sic] of the town, I decided to make a water color study of a little house by the road side. ; The road adjoined the rail-road at this point. A passenger train stopped here shortly after I started evidently for some obstruction ahead. The sunlit locomotive with the hot blue hill behind it was a thing with a vivid jet of steam roaring from its safety valves, with the hot blue hill behind it, was a thing of great power and beauty.; The engineer came over to see what I was doing. He asked me if I intended putting Ofie Reed in the picture. ; “Is he the owner” I asked innocently –
