centration. For my part, the use of background music in movies is generally overdone. When it comes to dramatic sequences colored movies, are in the same class as colored sculpture- the color is more than superfluous- it is distracting. ; Just when we were settled to a quiet evening at home the doorbell rang, which turned out, to our horror to be Kleins. These are about the most dreadful people I have ever met. Not only are they physically repulsive (dirty and slovenly of dress) but their conversation strikes the very lowest depths of formality. I thought they would never go, and when finally they arose to go, the oozed out, finally landing on the porch, where it seemed as if they would be planted in eternity. Finally in a rage, I turned and left, without explanation or apology and did not go back. Later I repeated some of rudeness but felt mostly I had been mean to “pass the buck” to Bertha. ; B & I for walk out Indian Church Rd. to clear our minds. A fine evening often the rain; a fresh mind, the sky star-studded, and the insect chorus riotous. Aug 14, (Monday)-; I had planned to go to Emporium this morning, but felt too tired. ; Most of morning in studio writing; P.M. take M.A. & M, to Buffalo- I to do a little shopping & go to bank, they to shop a little thin over. I left them at the bank. Aug 15 (Tues.)-To Emporium County- I had in mind this time doing a sketch of a freight train laboring thru (sic) the hills.
