June 26, 1939 (Monday) –Shopping in Buffalo, and car serviced – I see pictures everywhere, but none materialize. ; ; ; ; June 27 –Shopping again, this time with Bertha; among other things, for Martha’s birthday. ; ; ; ; June 28 – Fixing back steps, which had rotted – or rather, getting the necessary materials, and starting construction on the steps. ; ; ; ; June 29 – (Thurs.). A dream:Finding a sketch book of mine, and find in it superb drawing of a team of horses, hitched to a buggy, in July morning sunshine; also a drawing of a covered bridge to the north of Salem, showing a winding dirt road going east – a gray rainy day. These sketches seemed marvelous to me, and I was filled with regret over my present lack of ambition. I awoke, and was filled with the same mood.Finished work on the steps – it is a moist day, and the sweat runs down my forehead as tho poured.
