had, about his light being on, at which he grinned sheepishly.___; A.M. B & I to the Maple St. woods to get poke. It was a cool cloudy morning. This is a delightful place half-pasture and half woods. My last weeks working in the yard, made it seem as tho I have been away from the country for weeks, so that everything seemed new and delightful to me. Especially beautiful were ground-myrtle with its vivid purple flowers deep in the grass, and flee-bane (sic), just coming out.; Once we saw a brown-thrasher who was perched atop a dead mullein stalk, singly madly. The plaintive call of a phoebe at times.; We had some of the poke for dinner – what a mild yet distinctive (and delicious!) flavor.; I sent a bunch to Frank & Peggy._____; Most of the balance of the day, working at the yard. Bought some annuals, at Lehde’s and had so many I was at a loss where to put them; and was somewhat bored to buy the whole business, so I enlisted Bertha’s aid and advice as to where to put them. We worked until dusk.
