deep within me, so that my step was springy.______; Yesterday, the three oldest girls going to the school picnic at Chestnut Ridge Park, we plan an outing for Catherine & Arthur out to Grand Island, and then a movie afterwards. We took Arthur’s chum, Jimmy Balla along.; We took a simple lunch (ham sandwiches, milk, bananas + cakes) and set off a little before noon. We had never been over this route, and enjoyed the newness of it. The Grand Island bridge is a thing of beauty, and a joy to drive over, the grade is so smooth and gradual.; We stopped by a little willow tree to eat. Close to the shore, was a group of old piles or dilapidated boat docks, on which were gathered a flock of small gull-like birds that kept up a continuous plaintive crying, or calling. They all faced directly south, but whether this was for the sun, or to be facing the wind, or upstream, could not be determined. From time to time, a few of the birds left their perches, and dived into the water for minnows.; It was an idyllic hour. Tho the Niagara River is known to be one of the swiftest rivers in the world, it seemed harmless and calm today, reflecting & deepening the blue of the sky. The heavy warm air, laden with the odors of May pollens, stirred by such a soft moist wind, made us drunk with drowsiness. The gently lapping of the little wave-lets against the grassy shore, increased the effect. ; We could not stay long, because our picture was scheduled
