April 28, 1939-; A.M. planted bloodroot under spirea bushes in front of the house.; To the Varysburg country.; A cold day with heavy, gray clouds from the north.; Too tired to do any painting – a few pencil studies.; To Dutch Hollow, - to visit a woods south of the village. A beautiful spot – unkept land with huge elms and dense evergreen groves, with a torturously winding stream.; After lunch dig yellow violets for Berthas centerpiece box. A fine mist falling; the distant hill to the east obscured by low-hanging fog-like clouds.; Home early.______; Evening – Holdermillers over again to hear more music. Chiefly “The Messiah” –April 29, 1939-; Mounting paper.
