dumbly at them, and agonize because their season is so short; it seems I waited for months for them, and now that they are here, I find myself powerless to capture any of their beauty-; Wide open, they turn their delicate “pastel” shaded blossoms to the hazy sun – The world becomes just them, and a vague horizon of soft steamy blue haze; the air is filled with the shill piping of toads and hylas – ____; Yesterday afternoon dug up the front lawn, planted grass seed.; Evening, John McCreery – in to hear music – he brought along some musical satires by Alec Templeton the blind musician. They were very clever and hilariously amusing; but I could not go his poking fun at Handel’s oratorio style. As rediculous (sic) from a literary point of view as Handel’s method of repeating words or phrases, or prolonging a word or long runs etc – is, - still from the standpoint of pure music, it is justified, and to poke fun at it seems almost like sacrilege. There is not an artist whoever (sic) lived who hasn’t some mannerisms, which, from some point of view, could not be ridiculed.____; Mr. & Mrs. Hackford came in with John a few moments on a campaigning tour for Walther & Luke who are running for the school board.
