sat before the fire enjoying its warmth and cheer. The children toasted marshmallows. Afterward the children took a walk to the “Casino” -, then later B & I, with Arthur & Catherine took a walk down a ravine. We amused ourselves springing the pods of touch-me-nots. Such days are rare in human experience. ; We have been amusing ourselves the last few evenings telling the temperature by counting the notes of the tree – crickets. (The formula – the number of notes in 13 seconds, added to 42). It is remarkably accurate. I learned that at 55, of course the beat was one to a second, and at 50, the singing ceased._____; I could hardly get to the studio fast enough on our return from our outing, to dig my pictures out from under the weights, I found them in good condition, and the “operation” successful. I am torn between the Steubenville picture & the Elevators in the matter of a choice for the Carnegie International.September 2, 1938-; Glorious days, not too warm or too cold, - the earth a riot of yellow & green, blue skies with magnificent “cumulus” clouds.; A.M. Painted a little on the “Elevators” correcting the sky, on the right hand side where Frank R. had pointed out that it, ‘(the sky) seemed to come forward out of its plane. I solved it, by eliminating the white line area around the elevator (which F had suggested might be causing the trouble). I finished by noon. ; P.M. all of us to Buffalo to buy shoes for the children
