(straight on 78, past the junction with 98, to 368, then south-)As I drove on later, I turned right on a road leading southward; and after passing thru a dense woods I came upon a little swamp, and with a sudden realization I almost exclaimed aloud – “This is the place”! Quite by accident, I had found our elusive road, which was indeed, just beyond the swamp. I turned in on it, and went up over the hills. Here, I find my painting subject in an outfield, partly cut & shocked, with the hot sun pouring down on it, and with misty clouds in the hot white sky; - I spent the afternoon here.; Coming back, I measured the distance the road was from Strykersville – it was 13 ½ miles._____; Re-read, night before last Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hide. I noted a thing that had escaped me before – Dr. Jekyll in planning to “escape” into a state of being where he would be completely good or evil, chose the latter unhesitatingly.___; A dream last night: -; I had been out frog-hunting at night with Howard Austin. We had returned wet & tired to his home, which was on Hawley Ave Salem, Ohio. It was about 2 A.M. I was trying to arrange or adjust my clothing in some way, and kept walking around in their kitchen. Having on heavy shoes with thick stiff soles, I made considerable racket when I walked, so much that I awakened my companions (sic) father, sleeping above (in actuality, Howard Austins (sic) father & mother died long before I ever knew him). He flew into a violet rage, and cursed me with the most vile language,
