AM. To Harbor to get studies of a boat for Elevators picture - a clear sunny morning.
At the Michigan St bridge was a boat load of autos go up the canal. A fine feeling of the great boat gliding so noiselessly along - a feeling of latent power. Afterwards, when the boat was far to the south, the sun was reflected in the autos as brilliantly glittering stars.

AM. To Evans Elevators- a warm drowsy morning half-sunlight filtering thru vague cloud masses.
PM. To Gowanda country to look for mushrooms.
Hot and dry- the smell of sweet-brier. Apple trees in full white flower - past the pink and white stage, but still luscious- (the hum of bees-)
In the Pinegrove trilliums in their full pure white glory.

Down the steep hillside to the creek. My knees & hip joints ache from holding back.
Along the ledge; here there is scarce room for a foothold, so I removed my shoes & socks. The heat of the sun is doubled here, reflected as it is from the glaring white cliff. This was a little adventure, for a slip would mean at least a ducking. The hot stones and gravel felt good on my feet.
No sign of any mushrooms. The heat here is sickening -
