March 26, 1938-
A lowing rainy day - AM. To Buffalo to get Catherine’s bow repaired. PM. spent mostly in getting the children to & from their musical practice. A short stroll in Cazenovia Park.
Evening the NBC concert. The final piece a new symphony by Howard Hanson - a symphony in honor of the Swedish settlers of America. It seemed like a good work, but wholly European. It had traces of Sibelius in a number of places.
March 27, 1938-
Colder - a fine day of alternate clouds & sunshine, and snow-flurries driven by a strong south west wind. PM. Arthur & I make a 3 stick kite.
March 28, 1938 (Monday)
About 26° this AM.
The sun came out in a cloudless sky, and it soon warmed up, tho the air never lost its rich cold tang. A glorious day, in fact.
AM. B, Arthur & I to the Jamison Rd. Swamp to see skunk-cabbages (which were half up.) Arthur was like some wild thing that had been imprisoned & let loose at last. He ran here & there, up & down hill with such abandon that it gave me a pang to think he had not free access to the country.
PM. Arthur and I to fly the kite we made yesterday- after repeated failures we gave it up and bought a bow kite. We had hardly put it up with the upright stick snapped under the
