Beethoven’s souls walks and prances thru this symphony with all the creative exuberance of a God – a god sojourning on faith for only a brief period & It bespeaks a mind so completely self-mastered & powerful that no earthly calamities & banalities can touch it.
I cannot help but think that Beethoven walks in a natural world believing in worshipping a Supreme Being, believing the world to be a blaze of infinite beauty created by God, for the delight of Man.
I wish that I could feel this way always. There have been some moments – not many – when I have felt that I believe in, and was in direct touch with, some superior being, These moments grow fewer with the passing of time. There are those who believe that by following a certain formula, that an immediate & permanent contact with God can be effected. But I doubt it. It is a thing that can not be reduced to a formula—
