On a “will ‘o the wish” expedition this afternoon. Several years ago one autumn afternoon on my bicycle I found an old blacksmith shop on what I thought was Potter’s Road. Last fall I made an attempt on foot to find the place again, but was unsuccessful – Today after working indoors all morning and part of the afternoon I set out about4:00 o’clockto find the elusive blacksmith shop.
A day of alternate blizzards + sunshine with a brisk wind. Near Seneca St + City line the woods being out away – beech stumps with raw yellow tops – piles of cold blue beech limbs – one place a man setting fire to the brush. The caws of crows filled the air. Sights along the road – my eyes were busy all the time – I can’t recall many things but it seemed as if each moment held an eye-full whether it was the side of a crude new style house lit up, a huge dredge along the road, autos gleaming in the sun – a black locomotive belching white
